History
Our story
The African World Network Organization Inc. is a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening relationships between Africa and the African American community while building global partnerships for the advancement of Africa.
For more than three decades, the organization has championed initiatives that bridge cultures and inspire collaboration. From its roots at Dillard University, to strategic partnerships with the City of New Orleans, the organization has expanded its reach to foster dialogue and create sustainable opportunities that uplift Africa and its people.
Its impact extends beyond cultural exchange to include facilitating world trade, advancing nation building, and driving African development. By mobilizing resources, cultivating global relationships, and promoting strategic collaborations, The African World Network Organization Inc. continues to play a pivotal role in shaping a stronger and more connected future for Africa on the world stage.
All of this has been made possible by the diligent efforts of its Founder & CEO, Dr. Nchor B. Okorn, Professor Emeritus of Political Science (Dillard University), whose vision and leadership continue to guide the organization’s mission.
AWNO-Achievements at different times of the organizational history:
- AWNO held a conference on "Doing Business in Africa", Nigeria Institute of Management, Lagos with New Orleans' Rudolph Thomas.
- African World Network Organization held a conference in partnership with NEPAD in Hilton Hotel Abuja under the leadership of Mrs. Ukpabi Asika and Barrister Kingsley Ononuju.
- African World Network Organization INC. in Dillard University New Orleans hosted Dr. Hassan Adamu former Ambassador of Nigeria to the United States on the subject Opportunities for Investors in Nigeria.
- The African World Network hosted the former prime minister of Uganda Kinto Musoke in Dillard University New Orleans Louisiana U.S.A
- In 1995 The African World Network Organization hosted former council in charge of finance in New York, in the world trade center in down town New Orleans.
- The organization sponsored a trade mission to Uganda where we networked with a prime minister of Uganda and the president of Uganda President Musseveni.
- The city of New Orleans declared March 3, 1993 "African World Network Organization Day" in the city of New Orleans by then Mayor Marc Morial.
- We thank the Dillard University Community, former Mayor Marc Morial, and the public leadership of New Orleans, Mr Jack Lo of Dragon Contractors for his financial support, Christian Faith Ministries- under the leadership of Dr. Gregg Thomas Sr.; Southern University at New Orleans, Louisiana and the World Trade Center of New Orleans; New Orleans Media: Radio, Newspapers, Televisions, Magazines and the State of Louisiana, The USA, Nigeria and the world community for supporting this project.
The Africa World Network Organization invests in organizations with a clear mission and vision and a strong track record of results, but who have often lacked the sustainable funding to achieve that vision. In short, the African world Network Organization is seeking local leaders who are developing creative solutions to local problems.
